Our Lady of Fatima

Our Lady of Fatima refers to the appearance of the Virgin Mary to three small shepherd children, Lucia Santos and her cousins Jacinta and Francisco Marto in Fatima, Portugal. The apparitions began on May 13, 1917 and occurred on the 13th day of each of six consecutive months. The Catholic Church officially pronounced the event as “worthy of belief” in 1930.

The “Miracle of the Sun” occurred on October 13th, 1917. Mary had promised the children that she would perform a miracle during her final apparition to convince everyone that the events were real. In access of 70,000 people witnessed the event during which the sun became like a silver disk and darted around in the sky. It eventually began to appear to fall toward the earth, which panicked, many in the crowd, then reversed in coarse and returned to the sky.
